Clone Wars Hot Takes

Courtesy of FFG's youtube posting in HD and a European time zone, I intend to take a little stroll through what we can see in the trailer and spreads before we get to the actual livestream Friday.  Hopefully, this tides us over until then.

I've got some good screenshots and I'll be posting interesting things I noted after too much time spend on the Armada Wiki and scrolling through the youtube video 1 second at a time. I'm going to break them down by Republic and Separatist after this but I'll start this one off with a quick discussion of the Dial and Upgrade Card pack.

Dial pack

John Shaffer mentioned that each Starter set would come with 10 command dials and i presume 3-5 speed dials.  It seemed he was implying that additional ships will not come with either.  This means older players with more dials than we can count will probably not need to make this purchase.   It also seems that new players will perhaps only need to buy a pack or two in order to field an entire fleet eventually.

Interestingly enough the picture also includes 5 pass tokens from the SSD expansion.  No other ship has gotten these tokens so far.  I am not entirely sure what this means but perhaps FFG could be reworking the activation mechanic somehow with each ship getting one to spend once or something along those lines.  I'm sure we'll find out on Friday but it might be something to keep an eye out for.

Upgrade Card Pack

Seems like FFG is going to a single standard sized card for EVERYTHING in Armada.  First off, I'm glad I haven't bought Admiral Tater card holders yet, and two this should make storage easier, though I will have to invest in a better three-ring binder.  Perhaps a Trapper Keeper?

Besides getting everything in a standardized size, this will hopefully include errata'd card texts (maybe some new erratas too?) And offer an opportunity to get that extra copy of Spinal Armament you always wanted but not the third Liberty Expansion.  It would be nice if they included multiple copies of oft loved cards such as TRC or Comms Net and the like.

Finally, it was pointed out that Piett and Brunson both have a new symbol next to their name.  If I was a betting man this is a symbol to mark the card as exhaustable.  The extra icon seems nice but I'm not sure what other purpose it could be other than a graphical representation of some key card text.  

Shiny new larger cards.  Also, Ackbar seems to have stayed the same.

Recusant Destroyers Well, I jumped the gun a bit on my Separtist Hot Takes article but now we have more details so my goal is to spend a day breaking down what we know about each ship and maybe some builds and uses for these ships and how they might mesh into the general fleet order for each faction.  I'm starting with the Recusant because it looks interesting and it's my blog. VWC Pod Game 1 (Geek19)

 Geek19's Plo list vs CadetVW's Bail Bricks The Vassal World Cup is upon us and I had the privilege of playing the illustrious Geek19 s my first match in POD Leia.  You may know him from such Armada blogs as cannotgetyourshipout and Blissfully Ignorant Gaming .  So you might say he knows a thing or two about Armada.  This would both be our first match so a major win here could set the tone for the rest of our POD games.   Geek19's Fleet That's a lot of bombers that can lock down redirects Nevoota Bee and Plo powered ARC-170s can dish out some mean damage and his Jedi in the squad ball will surely help melt my meager squad ball quickly enough to let those ARCs begin their bombing runs.  The ships themselves are alright at either staying out of the fight (consular), being a little tankier than their points suggest (Peltas), OR just being a major part of the list but somehow still 79 points (Nevoota Bee).  This is very much a combined arms fleet with every ship and squads

Gameday in the Gateway to the Midwest

Well, I was heading to the St Louis area for work and much to my delight there appeared to be a thriving Armada community in the area.  Time to pack up the fleet, the bare minimum anyway, and fly it across the world to go play some games and make new friends. But with more February rain The Lists I brought my Garm Frigates lists.  Just getting more practice with it and seeing how it fairs against a variety of fleets.  Plus it's been a lot of fun lately. My opponent, Nathan, generously let me steal the second game of his day from Dakota.  All the Armada folks I have met so far have been great people and it's always a blast to just talk to them while we push our plastic space ships around.  Pew Pew noises mandatory! PEW PEW PEW   This would be my first time facing an Onager lit and after watching the two games unfold before me, I saw them peel apart a Starhawk and kill one another mercilessly.  Therefore, I wasn't quite sure how my VERY explode
